I don't know if I'll really be doing a Week in Review next week, what with it being Christmas and all. I'll still be posting, most likely, except for Thursday. But I doubt there'll be a whole lot to recap. Although, I suppose I could say the same for this week. So but anyways, where I'm going with all this is - after Christmas, it's going to be a new year.
2008 was a rough one for the C-man. And not because he just referred to himself as the C-man. Though, I imagine that's part of it.
I usually don't talk about my real life much on here. Sure, I talk about things I've done or rude observations I've thought about making. But like, things about me that don't include drinking (or the lack thereof, as some might try and tell you).
This year, some pretty big shit happened to me. And not in a good way. At least not at the time. By now I'm starting to feel pretty good about things again. But it certainly wasn't like that all year, much as I might let on otherwise.
It's not really important, of course. But I wanted to give the new year a semi proper treatment. And to be honest, I wanted to do it for a weekend post that only 15 of you will read (and to you 15, I appreciate it!).
I'm just hoping 2009 brings great new things. I've pretty much had enough of 2008, and I'm ready to make '09 my year. Hopefully, the Steelers will follow suit early on, and maybe if we're lucky we'll get to see more than one round of playoff action next year ('09, not the '09-'10 season).
But that's next year. This WEEK, we talked about a few things, while I had my head firmly burrowed in books that rival the thickness of a Tolstoy novel. Those things were...
1. We became 2008 AFC NORTH DIVISION CHAMPS!!!
2. And that was due to some serious clutch play in the 4th Quarter last Sunday.
3. Easiest pop quiz you'll ever take...
4. If you'd like to get me something for Christmas, this'll do.
5. Anyone else gettin' real tired of angry Ravens fans?
6. Aaron Smith haunts the AFC Defensive Player of the Week award like he'll haunt Kerry Collins' dreams after Sunday.
7. Kiss my ass, Fall 2008 semester!
8. The Steelers? Running the football? Nah, that'll never happen...
9. The sole AFC North Headline of the Day WEEK!
10. Reminisce yesterday, drink like a Champion today!
And for you audiophiles, don't you fret. Here are this week's riffs...
1. Party Hard - Andrew WK
2. Jibbs ft. Chamillionaire - King Kong
3. Unchained - Van Halen
4. Rollout - Ludacris
5. Burnout - Green Day
Bonus selection...
Where The Streets Have No Name - U2
We're going to do our best to get you a show for tomorrow. We'll tape, and hopefully get around to editing before all of the esteemed guests arrive for tonight's melee. But I can't make any promises. You'll just have to stop by around Noon tomorrow and see if we're better human beings than our behavior might normally suggest (smart money's on yes, that we are).
As for a gameday liveblog, unfortunately, that is an impossibility. See, even though this is supposedly the biggest game of the weekend, CBS has chosen not to show Steelers-Titans here in NYC. Instead, we could either watch 3.5 hours of "paid programming," or go to the bar. Where they serve beer. Cold beer. And have large TVs everywhere. Man, it's gonna suck.
See y'all tomorrow and HERE WE GO STEELERS!
PS - Sorry for getting all emo on you. It's a disease I'm trying to shake.

OFTOT Week In Review - Week 16...

AFC North Headline Of The Day...

I don't know what this is about. I don't need to know what this is about. I don't want to know what this is about. Frankly, I don't really care to know what this is about.
I'm just going to sit here and laugh at the notion that someone "wants to be 'here' in Cleveland." I guess what he's really saying is, "I want to be here in HELL." You go, Braylon Edwards. You may be the only friggin' one, man.
Braylon is good right where he is, and these links are too. Read 'em up...
Chinamen love the Steelers...excuse me, Asian-Americans, dude (not really though, they are actually Chinese...anyways) [PSaMP]
Just how good is the Steelers Defense? [The Fifth Down]
Obsessed with the Pens? Who isn't? [Deadspin]
I don't think there is a better blog out there than Carbolic Smoke Ball. Those assholes make me laugh on a daily basis. This is a solid Xmas post [Carbolic Smoke Ball]
Dude, my office has uncloggable toilets too! [Sean's Ramblings]
I can't be sure, but I think Vern's balls are chapped today [You Lay On The Ice Like A Broad!]
So I guess the Chiefs are the flavor of the week for pursuing Cowher, then? [KC Star via Trib]
So now, instead of suing the defenseless (but piratey) consumers, the RIAA plans to send messages to such (piratey) consumers' ISPs, and have them send threatening messages to such (piratey) consumers tellin' them to cease and cut their shit out immediately or face some consequences. /Fixed!...not... [WSJ Law Blog]
YES WE CAN!...run the ball...?

Alright, so as you know, I've basically just lost a whole week. Just sucked that shit right into a black void of death studying, law school did. So I figured that once I got a chance to finally play catch up yesterday, I'd have missed like, some really big stories...
But, no.
Is it just me, or did nothing happen this week?
I suppose that's a good thing. I mean, there's been the usual amount of media penile slurpage surrounding the next "hot" team of 2008, and it's #1 Defense. But other than that, what? The Steelers restructuring their ownership? Aaron Smith = AFC Defensive POTW? Keisel MAYBE playing on Sunday? Oh, well I guess there's also the whole spitgate thing with that insignificant Ravens Special Teamer. But I'm just saying, to me, those aren't exactly the most interesting headlines. Good, for the most part. But not so much things I feel I'd like to dedicate a post to. At least not today.
So what have I got for you this morning, then? I have absolutely no idea. I'm not gonna lie.
I could talk to you about Tennessee. And how if we stop Lendale White and Chris Johnson, it's going to be pretty tough for Kerry Collins to beat us with such notable pass catchers as Bo Scaife. And Alge Crumpler. And Justin Gage. And...Justin McCareins? I don't know, man. That just seems kind of "blah" at this point. We all know what needs to be done Sunday. So why dwell on it. Let's just do it. I'll drink some beers. Domski won't, as usual. And we'll hopefully come out with another BIG win.
The one thing I will say is - I'd really, really, really, really love our Offense to put together a good game on Sunday. I know that's asking a lot against a team with a stout defense like the Titans. But they'll be without their two top guys. So maybe it's doable. Really, I'd just like to see us run the God damned ball a little better. I can't say it enough, balance is key. Gotta keep 'em honest, ya know? If nothing else...like, maybe a 75 yard touchdown run...Master Fly W. Large, I'm looking at you! I mean, I know you've got a sandy crotch right now, and that you're sans fullback, which is further contributing to this prolonged vaginal irritation. But I have faith that you can have a standout game here, somewhere. Why not start with Sunday?
I don't know.
That's all I got.
Any other thoughts feel free to share.
By the way, do you think the Tennessean created "Whack A Steeler" so Albert Haynesworth and Kyle Vandenbosch won't feel left out on Sunday?
Oh yes, and I'd just like to put this out there, but...

Your Mom Goes To The Pro Bowl...

Hey TC, your boy Aaron Smith may not have made the Pro Bowl...but guess who's this week's AFC Defensive Player of the Week?
Yep.
If Aaron Smith were an Ice Cream flavor, he'd be, "I'm coming for you Sunday, Kerry Collins."
Or something like that...
Now someone get this man a helmet that fits for Christ's sake!
PS - As you're reading this, I'm probably in the middle of failing my last final exam of the fall semester. It's been real. It's been fun. But it hasn't been real fun, Fall '08. I'll see you the eff later! And last night's Property exam...kill yourself.
PPS - Tec, don't kill me for posting this...
No more random thoughts at this time.

I Think These People Need To Get Laid...

Notice the correct spellings of PittsburgH, the related group, "What Would Neil Patrick Harris do?," and the repetitious joke delivered by the spelling ace, there. Not to mention the extremely polite comment right above that.
Ravens fans, all class.
And also, you can't see it in the screen shot I took above, but this little gem was tucked away at the bottom...
Let me just ask - how can you, in good conscience, leave a game you just lost 13-9, that cost you the division, and still chant about the STEELERS sucking...Uh, sorry guys, I believe 'twas the Ravens who ultimately sucked, if I'm not mistaken...
[UPDATE: Nevermind...this was from when they killed us back in '06]
In other news, t-minus 36 hours until this law school exam business is all over!

Badass Coach, Badass Tee...

Courtesy of our friends at HHR...
And like I told HHR just now, the sad part is - as soon as I saw the shirt, my first thought was, "I smell Copyright Infringement." Further proof that Thursday afternoon cannot come soon enough...and also that I could use a beer.
Either way, buy this "fetch" item, here. I hear it makes a great Christmas/Hanukkah gift (Hanukkah's still going on, right?)!
Tomlin would approve...
Pop Quiz...
Kerry Collins

OR
Ben Roethlisberger

Who ya got?
...and I'm not talking about in beer pong...PS - one down, two to

What's Up Now, Baltimore?

Yes friends, THE Pittsburgh Steelers are your 2008 AFC NORTH DIVISION CHAMPS!!!
An 11-3 record, another win in a string that should hopefully culminate in a clean sweep of the division, at least a 2 seed and 1st round bye in this years playoffs, and a chance to become the 1 seed this coming Sunday.
Yep, I'd say yesterday's win was pretty damn big.
As for the game itself, if I didn't know it, I'd have thought I was watching the Dallas game all over again...Minus the turnovers in our favor, sub some pretty poor Special Teams plays.
You know, it's funny, earlier in the season, I used to joke about us getting that first drive TD and then shutting down for a good two quarters at least. But at this point, I'd take that first drive TD every day of the week over waiting until the waning minutes of a tight game to finally come alive.
But hey, a win is a win, even if it did push me a few steps closer to an early grave.
Anyways, before I ramble on any longer, let's just get right to this week's "Things That Were Awesome," "Things That Were Not Awesome," and "Things That Make Me Want To Start Watching Chess." And once you've read over whatever drivel is about to come out of my mouth...errr, fingers...let us all know your thoughts on the win in the comments. Word.
THINGS THAT WERE AWESOME
1. Farrior - 12 total tackles, including 8 solo and at one point he even looked to be hurt!
2. Ryan Clark's pick!
3. Keyaron Fox's fumble recovery and run back!
4. Hines Ward - 8 catches, 107 yards, including 3 for 36 on the final drive
5. Timmons had a pretty good game (5 tackles and a sack)...
6. As did our boy, Aaron Smith (8 tackles and a sack)...
7. Alright, Santonio's TD was pretty cool...but only because it ended up being a TD...
8. Allowing the Ravens just over 200 yards, total (202)!
9. I found it rather amusing that Washington was covering Washington...
10. Winning the friggin' division...again!
THINGS THAT WERE NOT AWESOME
1. Phil Simms. Need I say more?
2. Letting La'Ron McClain amass 87 yards rushing
3. Mitch Berger's dazzling 28 yard punt
4. My attitude - I was one salty bitch for the 1st half of that game
5. How about somebody calls a hold on that LT? I think he may still be holding Silverback right now...
THINGS THAT MADE ME WANT TO START WATCHING CHESS
1. Spiking the ball at the Ravens 4 with 1:04 on the clock
2. Throwing on 3rd and 1...and Ben fumbling/throwing a pick
3. Santonio's "hands"...or lack thereof
4. Allowing a guy I've never heard of return a punt 46 yds
5. Willie Colon - False start AND Holding...big game out there for the big fella...
Titans lost to the [effing] Texans yesterday. We murdered the Texans, Week 1, 38-17. Now, I'm not sayin'...I'm just sayin'...
By the way, does anyone else think Todd Heap's, like, the man of glass? How many times can one guy get hurt in a career?
Ah, whatever, here's this week's flipbook...
What exactly is this all about?
Hey Ed, watch those wandering hands, will ya?
Guess those little ass teeth aren't aerodynamic enough...
FAIL!
Hey, baby...
Oh, I see you have friends...
Look up the definition of "lit up" in the dictionary and you may find this picture...you may also find a picture of Sansmokio, but whatever...
So sad...
Get a room, you two!
Thank you...Thank you...we'll see y'all next season, then?
Now, if you'll all excuse me, I'm gonna go study for another 72 or so hours straight. I'll see y'all either on Thursday afternoon or Friday, depending on how thirsty I am after my last final on Thursday at Noon. Try not to miss me too much, yeah?
Oh, and prepare for the shitstorm of people complaining about Santonio's TD...Not this guy, however! WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! (this guy = me)
