luckily, i live in the cancer capital of the United States...Delaware
maybe the quality of air in the burgh contributes to the monster talent Pittsburgh continually rolls into the NFL
actually, i heard that the penguins are fueled by the pollution in the Pittsburgh air. Word on the street is that Gary Roberts is completely responsible for global warming
I'm hoping that the line isn't too bad. I'm hoping to see Kemo's mean streak, he was a huge bad ass in college. I still don't see why we don't move Colon inside and Starks to tackle as long as he's in shape. If Marvel and Hartwig are healthy we might actually have an average line.
I still don't know why they gave Max Starks 7 million dollars a year to apparently be a back-up. I know it's only one year, but it's still alot of money.
marc....i'm hoping that Kemo is a monster as well...i've heard some questions about his intelligence and ability to pick up the blocking schemes
good point,it would make sense to play starks if they are paying him all that money! So, do you think Simmons should be a backup? move to center?
Starks has the potential to be an All-Pro. If he ever does break through to that level he could be one of the top linemen in the NFL. Big "if".
I still can't believe we let Big Red go. But, all great things must end, and Pittsburgh does have a tradition of cutting future HOFers. Cant mess with tradition...grrr.
Sean "I can't block a Lego" Mahan better be a backup this year. I don't care who replaces him, as long as he's replaced.
The O-line *might* look a LOT better with two effective RBs (if that pans out). Only having FWP made it pretty easy for opponents to key on pass when Willie was out. God knows Davenpoop couldn't carry a disease in a pig sty...
And why is Max with my wife in this pic? Honey, i thot i told you to get me a buttercup, ya dumb beotch? Homey better bacdafunkup....
Do you think All-Pro at LT or RT and why, just wondering?
I like Max and think he has potential, as evidenced by his play last year at LT. I think we should allow him to compete at LT, Smith didn't do that well last year. I don't know, Smith was hurt though. I really think the whole line should be in competition.
I agree that the entire line should have to compete. We didn't really ever see any coordinated effort by them as a group. I had the distinct impression all year that our O-line was playing with a "me-first" mentality. IMHO it started with Alen and filtered down.
His dissatisfaction wasbound to affect the line, since he was such a perrenial All-Pro and old-timer. I personally think Al was a little pissed about the affirmative-action appearence of Mike Tomlin. He said a few things about expecting Russ G or Whiz to get the job. Seemed like the whole team was hiding some unknown frustration about the whole situation.
Anyway, i like Max wherever he plays best. Personally, i think he has the physical attributes and intelligence to play LT, but i think he lacks the mean-streak to get really tough on bull-rushers. And, at times he plays stiff. Don't know if it's a nagging injury, excitement, or just bad form- he just seems unwilling to use his huge frame to full advantage sometimes.
He is still pretty young, tho. I'm interested to see how he matures. All guys get meaner as they age. Hopefully Max finds some super-aggressive aspect of himself amnd turns it loose on opponents this year.
What are your thoughts?
I pretty much agree, but I really think the problems he has have more to do with when he's really heavy, he seems out of shape and doesn't move as well. They commented many times last year on how he was in shape and he really played well last year. I don't really think it was a problem with Tomlin I just think it was a changing of the guard issue. Two different head coaches and two styles. I guess we'll see this year.
Yeah, the Tomlin issue will be decided upon his departure. If he leaves with a Ringf or three he'll be a success. If not i guess it'll be arguable.
Starks knid of has that "Baby Huey" disposition. He seems a little more goofy and happy than i'd prefer my O-line to be. And his weight, gven that huge frame, is anoter serious concern. But he still has all the tools he needs to be a real force. If he can just find a mean streak...
