Not pictured: Snipers Silverback and The Wood.

As they say, a win is a win.

Things that were awesome...
1. Silverback and LaMarr Woodley combining for four of five total sacks
2. Santonio's catch and run on the play that sparked all our momentum
3. Jeff Reed
4. Mewelde Moore and Carey Davis stepping up
5. Winning and being 1st in the division with a leg up on Bawlmore and Cleveland

Things that were not awesome...
1. Joe Flacco marching the Ratbirds down the field to tie it up
2. Multiple false start penalties on same drive
3. Mitch Berger's stat line - Average Punt = 40 yards
4. Listening to Jaws whisper sweet nothings about Joe Flacco all night
5. The game ending at 12:15 or some such ungodly hour for a blogger with a real job

Things that sucked...
1. The 1st half
2. Big Ben IN the 1st half
3. Bruce Arians' PLAY CALLING in the 1st half
4. Mendenhall and Simmons to IR?
5. Ray Lewis comparing himself to Michael Strahan

"Full" game recap post may follow later this morning. Until then...what say you, Steeler brethren?

Oh, and while I'm getting my act together, witness the celebratory idiocy...

That was agonizing and awesome and LONG. What a freaking game. There is no doubt in my mind that those are the two toughest teams in this league. I fear for us next week, but for now let us relish this war of a victory. I must say, I was thoroughly depressed in the first half.

Well, that was the hardest game i've watched since the Jets debacle last year. I'm happy to say that, in the end, Ben, Tomlin and Arians ultimately proved me wrong in my issues from last week. I couldn't be happier about being wrong.

And damn, but the zebras did their ever-lovin' best to rob us of another close one. I thought sure we were going to be flagged for "excessive celebration" on the TD pass. They flagged it, but decided *not* to call it.

What a grinder of a game. I have to admit a lot went our way that could easily not have. I'm sure there are Filthmore SkyRats fans who will say we got "lucky". Maybe we did...but it's still a very, very satisfying "W".

I just wonder who's gonna run the ball now?

Isn't Shawn Alexander still out there, unsigned? He might be beat up, but he'sbetter than nothing. Might even be decent in the high-powered Arians offense...ahem.

Be pretty funny having him on the team tho.

These Monday night games need to start at 8 pm. not this 8:45 pm bull.

I was done hearing about Flacco and Bens contract.

A win against that ravens d is always welcome.

I was damn near ready to turn the game off at halftime. If not because of our performance (or lack thereof), but the commentators were AWFUL.

LONG LIVE JEFF REED!!!

I need to go nurse this headache...

Well Mendenhall out for the year as is Simmons. Simmons, no big deal, Stapleton will be just as good if not better, Mendenhall being out blows.
Maybe we can get Mike Bush cheap from the Raiders....

Some quick notes:

We should wear the throwbacks to every game. Silverback in the last two MNF games with the throwbacks: 5.5 sacks and 4 forced fumbles.

Tomlin. Agree with Tobiathan, he showed some good adjustments after half. I think he gets too much flak for the ineptitude of Arians. Bruce is the one calling the plays, no?

Just because Mewelde Moore is a third down back, it doesn't mean he can only play on that down. I kept waiting for Arians to get him some time after the repeated Davis-up-the-middle plays were stalling.

Reed is still 100%, Cotter.

Timmons took control on that last Ravens third down where he got the sack. He was not going to let the Ravens move the ball on that play.

I called the turnover right before it happened.

Good Defensive performance.

I've never seen Ben look so uncomfortable in the pocket (or lack thereof).

I'm not sure what to make of it. We know our D is solid, we have great offensive weapons...

I just don't know how to take this W.

Matt - here's what I take away from this W....

Ben got to call the plays in the second half, which pretty much confirms what we already knew -- Arians is irrelevant. There are plenty of other adjectives I could use to describe him, but being the lady that I am *cough*, I'll refrain from speaking my mind. (although that is subject to change at a moments notice).

Christy - good point. I'm just not used to seeing this un-easiness from an offensive standpoint.

I'm really happy for Mewelde Moore, he had some great OT plays.

Najeh is back btw. I actually didnt mind him, he's decent.

steelers scored when they went to the no-huddle offense. maybe they should use it more.

with all the ridiculous pressure coming up the middle, why not try a screen pass or two? maybe even a draw play? these are ways to deal w/ the pass rush.

i dont think that the blame for all the pressure on ben can be placed on the offensive line alone. ben needs to diagnose the defense (preferably before the playclock ticks to 1) and make the proper protection adjustments.

overall, BIG win. i'm already ready for the jags. the bye week cannot come soon enough for our banged up steelers.

What do tickets go for in Jax, $10-15? I should drive up there.

domski43 said...

vern - seriously no one goes to the jags games (ridiculous)

i looked into buying tix for this game and was very suprised to see how expensive tix were. steelers fans must be buyin all the tix! (go figure)

Business Horse said...

Wow. I'll have to check out Jacksonville Craigslist and see if I can find some tickets for sale amongst all of the free Bibles.

Is there some sort of NASCAR event this weekend? That'd probably drive the price down even further...

Ok, now that I have a second to breathe (Coincidentally, don't these people know not to ask me to do shit on a Tuesday after the Steelers play on MNF? Damn)...

big snack silverback ~ All I can say is, get to the bye week without any further collateral damage.

tobiathan ~ I believe we've "solved" the depth problem at RB by bringing back Najeh and Gary Russell. And by solved I mean, at least there will be someone in the backfield to do something. What? I don't know. Honestly, Najeh? I guess it could be worse.

doug ~ Definitely a big win, not just because we somehow overcame the Ravens D, but of course, because it's another division win. Plus, I hate the Ravens. If they had won I was fully planning on flying to Pittsburgh and drop kicking Bruce Arians in the face...multiple times.

christy ~ Adjectives? How about a noun? Asshole. Bruce Arians = asshole.

marc ~ I wish! Looks like we're settling for Najeh and Russell. Hopefully FWP can nurse himself back to health during the bye week. I'm sure Jeff Reed would be happy to lend a hand...

tec ~ Reed IS still 100%. Also, Silverback got 2.5 sacks (I said at least 2) and Woodley got 1.5 (I said at least 1.5). Maybe Anthony Smith really is rubbing off on us...oh wait, our predictions are actually right...

matt ~ All I can take is that it was a W. A division W. Beyond that, all I've got is [see comment to Christy a few lines above]...

domski ~ How about that draw to Mendenhall that got like 10 yards? And yet, we continue to throw the ball on 8 out of every 10 plays...

vern ~ If you go, definitely bring a pair of scissors and see how many mullets/rattails you can snip during the tailgate. The job pays $10 a strand...see Tobiathan for payment. He's constructing a Barry Melrose costume for Halloween.

So...who's Mary Belrose again...?
