Say What???

"After the play, I wasn't screaming 'he's hurt.' I was screaming 'he's done.'"

- Ray Lewis
This was taken from last week's issue of Sports Illustrated, which for some reason unbeknownst to me I still subscribe to.

So um, Ray...uh, what the shit is that?

Sounds pretty dick to me.

What do you guys think?

Also, see here for Terrell Suggs' shit talk on the matter.

Couple that with what Ape wrote about:

Ravens Put a Bounty on Hines and Rashard

Hines is dirty, though? Seems like everyone that's calling Hines dirty don't really know the meaning of the word.

No class.

This is confusing. Hines does his job, doesn't talk shit in the media - yet he is the dirty player?

Classy guys, those Ravens.

I'm still waiting on the fine for fat ass Shaun Rodger's late hit on Ben (not to mention the double helmet-to-helmet Ben took in that Atlanta game a couple years ago), and there should be a fine or something for putting a bounty on other players, but all that douche-bag jackass of a commissioner wants to do is fine Hines Ward for playing football the way it should be played and not getting penalized for on the field. Is it possible to impeach the commissioner of a sport? Clearly Roger Goodell is as incompetent as they come.

/Rant over. Maybe.

This is not cool at all.

But we must remember a few years back when Todd Heap was barely standing up after a play vs. pittsburgh, lined up, and porter (i think) jumped offside and intentionally pushed heap over (when he was obviously hurt). That was not too cool either.

What gets me is what does JeBus have to do with hitting someone?

tec ~ Let 'em say what they want. We all know the truth. Keith Rivers just had his head down. Shit happens. Can't fault Hines for making the block he was supposed to make, right?

doug ~ Not even Math class?

matt ~ I blame Cleveland, myself.

ladi izz ~ Good question. I'll call Monica Lewinsky and see what we can do.

domski ~ True. But to be fair, the Steelers didn't put a bounty on Todd Heap. I'm not condoning it. Just making jokes about it. And you said it man, nobody [redacted} with the Jesus.

Lack of respect in sports doenst surprise me.

What really creeps me out is his incantation to god afterwards.
That's like when they show mafia hitmen do the sign of the cross.

But c'mon, do we care? Football breeds violence, agression, contempt, egotism and a few other 'qualities'. We shouldnt be surprised at the result.

We'll all breath a little easier when blowhards like Ray Lewis are "done" and "gone". Let's turn it around on him.

you pittsburgh douche bags need to shut the hell up...of course your gonna defend ward's cheapshot takin ass....ray lewis's hit was purely clean...mendenhall's pussy ass should have known wat was comin wen he decided to run it towards a brick wall like ray...now hes bitchin on the sidelines.....ward attacked a guy who was not lookin at him and was not challengin him....thats a dickhead move anyday of the week....dont call urself a good blocker wen all u do it take football "sucker punches"....hines is a pussy who well get destroyed by the by any legitamate linebacker in a one on one....fuck pittsburgh

This is just Ray Lewis, doing what will get him some notoriety before he retires. As fir Sizzledizzel Suggs, who cares, he'll be just like Scotty Pipen without Michael Jordan....a washed up has-been. He'll be traded to the Lions and just fade out, just like Pippen with the Jail-Blazers. Go 99.

One more thing Ray! Leave the Man upstairs out of it.

I am a die hard Colts fan and suffered the terrible agony of the Colts Steelers game to go to SBXL. Yet, I still respect Hines Ward and would LOVE for him to be a Colt. I would NEVER want any of the Baltimore linebackers to be Colts. They are classless head hunters that go great with the Patriots' style of cheap dirty play. Hines is great to watch and plays hard and utilizes all his talents unlike a lot of pretty boy wide receivers in this league. Ravens players I love to hate...Hines Ward I hate to love. My sympathy goes out to Rashard that did not deserve any of this. Taking a guy out for a season ending injury and possible career altering injury is classless and should be punishable for this season if not multiple season punishments. Ray Lewis is old enough to know better...but I guess he did murder a guy, so maybe he isn't?????

YABOY - you are right about this..."hines is a pussy who well get destroyed BY THE BY any legitamate linebacker in a one on one"

you mest bee rilly smawt.

Rivers was trying to hit Moore, so Hines hit Rivers. Thats how the league saw and thats how I see it. Of course I dont support all the cheap hits Hines lays out, but its part of the game. You dont hear Mendenhall or any of the steelers players complaining about his season ending injury. Nor do I hear any Bengals complaining about Ward's hit. Only retards like you who unfortunately figured out how to use a keyboard.

ray lewis's hit was purely clean

Yes it was. What wasn't clean was him celebrating the injury.

HE'S DONE!

That doesn't sound like the voice of a clean, classy guy.

tecmo - exactly! And i dont see the connection between celebrating hurting someone, then saying the Lord's prayer.

Sounds like a mentally disturbed person to me.

Hey gang, longtime Seahawk fan here (so the name came naturally to me) and I just wanted to say I think both guys and the league are all in the wrong here.

Since the World Series is on, I'll say this whole thing reminds me of the pitchers in baseball who throw at certain hitters on purpose for perceived wrongs. It's ridiculous. It's ugly. And the league needs to take strong action to put a stop it.

I think the NFL is in a similar position here. If they start punishing ALL the guys who deliver cheap shots, then players won't feel like they have to protect themselves in this manner. But like many sports leagues, the No Fun League is reluctant to single out star players like Ward (be honest with yourself now, he has that rep for a reason).

In fact, the league (and us fans) encourage these idiots with all our love for the big hit. So if a guy comes into the game and lays Ward out, 3 things will happen: 1) His teammates will pat him on the back for getting some "payback". 2) He'll get his name on all the highlight shows. 3) He furthers his career by showing coaches that he can make a big hit.

Why wouldn't these guys behave like this?

ok guys hits like this happen in every game every year.its only dirty when the guy who got his ass laid out decides to cry about it.wheater you see it coming or not it happens this is why they say keep your head on a swivle!

thats the mindset you need to be a hall of famer like RayRay. this guy is a BEAST

Hey Coltfan, you are a moron. Multiple year suspensions for a clean, legal albeit hard tackle on a run up the middle? Another example of why your city doesn't deserve the horseshoe...

Anonymous said...

this is from a atlanta fan so not involved with either team but hines ward is a great ball player. maybe the hit was late but atleast he didnt get up celebrating he had hurt a player like ray lewis did. hines ward dont need the negativity or BS he is getting over this. your playing football, grow up its a physical sport.

I wouldn't expect this kind of behavior out of a murderer.

This goes for all football fans, I like watching a hard hit, why, because thats what football is about. Your getting paid 50 million for a reason, so if they just pad the rules so that little baby doesn't get scratched, your not earning your money. Even 10 years ago you could see a blatant difference in the rules of the game. Hell, eventually we might as well just call it golf.

Cotter said...

I'd just like to point out something I think a lot of you are missing, which is the crux of this post.

It's not the hit, it's the celebration of it that's offensive to us Steelers fans. None of us were complaining when Mendenhall went down, and neither was Mendenhall.

But when the guy who put the hit on Mendenhall is going around bragging about how he hurt Mendenhall, well, that shit ain't cool, man.

Anonymous said...

Ray is the shit if he's talking shit at least he knows to back it up if any player is dirty it doesnt matter football is a mans sport i play i hit the same way you cant take it dont play you cant watch it change the channel

tecmo said...

Anon - You're incredibly stupid. No one is saying the hit on Mendenhall was dirty. It's talking to SI and bragging that he injured a guy...THAT'S dirty. And childish. Just like you. Learn to read.

The NFL (National Felons League) is getting just as bad as the NBA (National street-Ball Association)... just a bunch of thugs, drug addicts and sand lot bullies who want to be hero's but end up being a bunch of zero's...

Anonymous said...

All three major sports groups: NFL, NBA and MLB need to cut the players salaries by two-thirds and let's see who stays to play for the love of the game and not the love of the money...

it may have been a clean hit by ray but very unclassy and unsportsmanlike for him to boast about it. and hines ward is not a dirty player. he is great. he doesnt take cheap shots u dumbasses. he does exactly what he is assigned to do. block, "crack", or go out and catch a pass. quite often you will see him land a hit, and a great one at that. dont complain about it, he is a great player and plays football like it should be played. so him being fined is garbage. and for ray lewis, he is good but never a classy player. football is a physical sport but not to be a bounty hunter on the field. play the game, talk very little trash, but dont go hunting for certain players. and if you hurt someone, at least have decensy to make sure they are ok and/or help them off the field or if its really bad signal for the trainers. i saw a play where hines ward just flattened dude, and he knew right away he was going to need looked at. he immediately signaled for the trainers. thats class right there. so if ray lewis and the ravens defense is going to bitch about it, they are pussies. and ray lewis should be in prison anyways, didnt he kill a man???

hahaha...it is great to hear all of the bitter ravens fans on this site. Moron must be the main additive in their water in Baltimore. Sure it was a hard and clean hit, but the moron celebrated ending a player's season and could affect his career health. Bernard Pollard didn't celebrate taking Tom Brady out for the season and most celebrate it that are outside of football. It is called CLASS. I would up and leave that town just like Irsay did too if these are the fans I would have to deal with. How would you like a celebration when your "savior" Joe Flacco (give me a break) goes down with a serious injury? So please stop bitching about how it was a clean hit and that's the game, because going out onto a field trying to end a coworker's career isn't what the game is about. Football is a GAME, a great game, that should be played by people with CLASS and respect such as Hines Ward, Peyton Manning, and like Kimo von Oelhoffen when he accidentally took out Carson Palmer. THAT is class my friend. Ray Lewis should feel sick to his stomach he would take a season away from a fellow NFL player. Although like many have said, he did murder a man, so I guess his class and respect died a long time ago.
