Island of Class Amidst A Sea of Douchebaggery...

"You know, that's probably something we coulda cleaned up...and just win and act like we've been in this position before..."

At least one Titan has some sense.

For Steelers fans irateness, KDKA's got you covered.

Oh, and somebody tell Stephen A. Smith that it's the "IMMACULATE" Reception.

For someone who preceded that statement by saying how much he loves the Steelers, I'd expect him to at least get the name of one of the greatest sports plays in history correct. Nice work, Stephen A.

About this terrible towel issue..

Steelers fans have an attatchment to the terrible towel, but do the Steelers players?

Every week hundreds/thousands of steelers fans flood opposing stadiums waving their terrible towels. Lets look at this from an opposing fan's perspective. How would you feel if Ravens fans came to Pittsburgh and started waving purple towels? Yeah, thats probably how other fan bases feel. If a Steelers player took a purple towel and stepped on it we would be proud. So lets not be hypocrites.

I was brought up under the belief that terrible towels were to be used only during playoff times?

Anyone wanna discuss?

Yea but its not just any other towel. It's THE terrible towel. It is a pittsburgh tradition. I also think steeler players have an attachment to it too. When I go to games, every time they intoduce Heinz Ward, Ward comes running out of the tunnel waving that towel.

also, The Towel made its debut on December 27, 1975 in a playoff game against the Baltimore Colts. The great, late Myron Cope was asked to come up with some gimmick for the big playoff game. He said on the radio to all steelers fans to bring a yellow dish towel to the games and wave it to pump up the players. Nearing kickoff, the Steelers gathered in their tunnel for introductions, whereupon the crowd exploded—and suddenly, by my estimation, 30,000 Terrible Towels twirled from the fists of fans around the stadium! During the Towel's debut game Andy Russell, who had opposed the idea of the Towel, returned a fumble 93‒yards for a touchdown. Then Russell said after the game. The Steelers went on to defeat the Colts 28–10. The towel was invented for a playoffgame, not just to be used during.

Tecmo, I just read your comment on that site, and BRAVO man! Excellent.

Oh, its ongoing. This is everyone else's reasoning.

Since the Steelers have TONS of fans that twirl towels at opposing stadiums, we have no right to get mad when the towel is stomped on after an away loss.

I'm all for celebrating after a win, but not to do so in a childish manner.

i think other players disrespect the towel because they can't fill their stadium with their own fans when the steelers are in town. it's gotta suck to have the best record in the league and still see thousands of terrible towels twirling around in your home stadium.

when an opposing player stomps on the towel, he's really just disrespecting his own fan base and saying "why are there so many of these towels here?" if the home fans held on to their tickets, the terrible towel wouldn't even be meaningful enough to someone like lendale white for him to step on it - at least not at a home game.

Seeing the Titans disrespect the towel was not cool and i do think that it was a childish act by the participants. But, Why do you think the Titans players stomped on the terrible towel? Did they want to get a reaction? Of course they did, lets not feed into it is all i'm saying.

I'm interested in seeing any of the Steelers players reactions to this towel stomping.

domski - no doubt was it a ploy to rile everyone up. Still not gonna stop me or anyone else from calling out a douchebag when I see a douchebag.

i hope the Steelers call them out on the field in the AFC championship!

ding ding ding

/we're fans...we can't play 'em on the field. if we have to call 'em out for being bitches, so be it. the team will take care of business on the field

vern ~ Yeah, it is! Haha, I just had to include it...because, I mean, honestly, I think if you asked 10 people at random, off the street, if they knew what that play was called, at least half would know it is the IMMACULATE reception (results may vary with geography). But I could be way wrong (and it wouldn't be the first time...or even the 21st time...)

lon-ton ~ Great assessment. I think there's definitely plenty of truth to that! I mean, if everytime you played the Steelers in your home stadium you had to watch a shit load of yellow towels waving, you'd probably be angry too. Still, LenWhale is just a douche anyhow. So this doesn't really surprise me. Remember his comments after the Lions game?

domski and tec ~ It was definitely a douchebag move. Disrespectful? Sure, why not. I mean, you could also look at it this way - Clearly they're insecure enough to feel the need to go jaggin' around like that. So, like you both said, let's hope the Steelers do their talking on the field in JANUARY!

Pop Quiz - Who's fatter - Lendale White or Romeo Crennel?

On the other hand, stomping on the towel is some funny ass shit!
