RIP Cope - You Were One in a Million...

"People may think I'm senile, but I ain't. I thought I was a celebrity.

- Myron Cope
I don't really even know where to begin here...for sure it is a sad day for every Steeler fan.

For those of you who don't know what I'm referring to - legendary Steelers broadcaster and mainstay Myron Cope died this morning of respiratory failure.

Myron Cope was the Pittsburgh Steelers. Without him we wouldn't have the Terrible Towel, nor creative and witty nicknames for players over the years, and we certainly would not have enjoyed Steeler games nearly as much without his unique personality.

When he stepped away from broadcasting after 2005, I think we all knew he was feeling his age. His hospital stays over the past couple years affirmed that. So this comes as little surprise. Nevertheless, we'll all feel it today and beyond.

I don't have much time to do this properly, but I did want to at least post something to honor his distinguished career and life. Simply put, Myron Cope was an icon. A great man. A once in a lifetime individual -- there will never be anyone like him again.

Rest in peace Cope-ra-scope. We'll miss you.

Feel free to share your Cope memories in the comments section.

Going to the big game in the sky....

At least the guy got to work until almost the end. I knew he must be feeling pretty bad when he quit announcing games.

Wow. What an icon. Hope he rests in peace. And he got one more Superbowl run.
