In case you haven't already heard from 1,000 other people, acting legend Paul Newman died yesterday after a long bout with Cancer. He was in a million cinematic classics, but I think the one we'll all hold nearest and dearest was Slap Shot. Fast forward the video above to around the 3:20 mark and pour one out for a great American actor.
On a somewhat related note, my Mom claims she once saw Paul Newman at a deli in Westport, CT, where he lived. She worked nearby and she said he used to call in his sandwich order, then when he went to pick it up, the shop owner would conveniently call out - "Who wants a roast beef on rye," which of course, was Newman's order. Humble, indeed.
I've also always admired the fact that he donated every last cent of profit from his "Newman's Own" dressings, etc. to charity. These days, celebrities are more talk than action when it comes to charity. He was a rare human being in that sense.
RIP Paul. The world will miss you and your kindness.

We're running out of American icons.
step up Cotter- it's your turn to be the Prototypical American Archetype!
I'd take the job, but i don't have most politically viable positions....
Oh yeah:
R.I.P. Mr. Newman. The world is a little less bright without ya...
My roommates and I are all about his take on oreos.. "Newman O's" So. Fucking. Good.
Amen, Cotter. He will be missed.
God help us when we lose Eastwood... he's one of the last.
I watched Slap Shot last week for the 10,000th time. Still as funny as it was the first 1,000 times.
It sure would be nice to have a non-pussy actor like him on the screen nowadays.
