Gameday Discussion Thread...

Tobiathan and I may be the only assholes willing to post comments on this blog during the game, but hey, that's our god given right, and we're going to exercise it.

If you're checking in during the game, feel free to join us.

Here we go Steelers!!

Leaving my apartment for the bar. An 8 year old kid has just explained to me that Tom Brady is better and that's why the Steelers are going to lose today...8 year olds dude.

Of course, his genius father surely explained all the intricacies of the game to his eight-year-old. What a shame- already fostering ignorant shortsightedness at such an early stage. Hope the little turd doesn't go postal when Brady gets smashed.

One the reasons i stay home for games is that i've nearly had an aneurism when confronted with the completely unsupportable positioins of Steeler-haters who make a point of putting themselves in the midst of Steeler Faithful during a game. These are, of course, the same tw*ts that scream bloody murder when people insult them, harass them and generally abuse them for being stupid enough to hate on our Steelers right in their hometown.

Those verysame kind of turds would never make it in European "football" fandom; they'd be beaten bloody for that sort of silliness. And rightfully so.

BTW-

Thanks a lot for the thread brudda! It's great to have a place to voice my idignation and excitement. Hopefully i'll at least amuse anybody else stopping by.

Oughta be a great game!

Go Stillers! Kill Prats!

PS- if this game gets ruined for us by some unimagineable, obscure, or unclear call by an official i'm gonna blow a gasket. i'm already starting to think the NFL is crooked and catering to the NE market.

if the Stllers get beat in game-play, fine. just don't let it be an officiated loss...

Hey, didn't our zSteelers draft Will Blackmon back in the day as a WR?

Is it a different Will Blackmon who blew stuff up in GB?

Anonymous said...

Nevermind on the Blackmon thing. This Will Blackmon is a rookie. I shoulda looked it up first...

So i'm pretty, but i ain't smart..

Cotter said...

Dude, a Yankee fan just told me we'd win. Count stands at 1 and 1.

Man I suck at mobile comments...shit.

It's on.

Thank the Football Gods we didn't get burned on the opening drive. I was most worried about that. Those first drives have been key for the Dirty Bastages.

Anonymous said...

I really do have a good feeling about this game.

As long as there isn't some unreal, predictable outrageous penalty late in the game i believe we wil pull this one out convincingly...

This NE defense is over-rated, and i seriously doubt if they can stand up to the physicality of our Steelers.

We need to stay consistent though, for sure...

Anonymous said...

It's still very early, but it looks to me like the Prats defense is a little sluggish.

I'm getting the impression that maybe Belichud worked 'em too hard this week...

We'll see.

And- i think the NFL should outlaw ALL hits below the knee, period. These guys are pros and ought to be able to control their actions. I'm getting tired of seeing guys get busted knees from chicken-sh*t tackles around the ankles.

A good drive. Points are always a plus. And it's a good sugn that their D couldn't stop us on the drive. I'm not worried about the feild goal- if they couldn't stop our first drive their's every reason tobelieve that defense will only wear out as the game goes on...

Cotter said...

How about that offsides non-call?

Cotter said...

Oh yeah and gotta get 7 against the Pats.

Anonymous said...

Well, we can pretty much expect the oficials to give the Prats every benefit and penalize us for any even slight infraction. i've already seen three cases of hardcore holding on the NE line with no-calls.

And Moss pushed Carter to the ground before that TD, but since he plays for NE it must be OK.

Honestly, we'll be lucky to even have a chance with the referees today. I was serious when i said we'd have to beat them and the Prats.

But Brady is f*cking up by pissing off Silverback. I'm getting the feeling ol' Tom is gonna be leaving this game soon....

And they *already* look tired, don't they?

Anonymous said...

I love how they get away with tackling Ben by the neck and slapping Willie while he's on the ground....

Bullshit.

The NFL sucks ass. It's all about big markets and big sales...

Anonymous said...

Here it comes-

The zebras are going to nitpick the dogshit out of us and let NE get away with everything.

Business as usual....

You can bet money there'll be a pass interference call against us as soon as we get them into third-and-long.

Cotter said...

Way to bite on the play action Anthony Smith! What are you gonna do now Ben-better put together a drive. Don't get rattled.

Anonymous said...

Phil Simms is a piece of shit. How can such a biased bastard be the announcer for every effing Steeler game?

And yeah:

Anthony Smith got burnt crisp on that play.

Still a lot of football left...

Cotter said...

That's a way ta get it back!

Anonymous said...

What a huge effing play by Ben and Najeh!

An awesome move on the outside by the BigBoy! I knew he had speed, but i couldn't figure out who the hell the huge guy in white was in the end zone...lol

Who knew he could play WR?

Garuantee ya they never saw that coming. And how about the boy Ben juked on the scramble?!

Cotter said...

That's right man, 60 minutes! Don't let 1 play mess with your game plan. Hit Tom Brady!!!

Cotter said...

Guess we can't say Najeh never did anything for us.

Cotter said...

Man looks like we're gonna have to fight for this one.

troubledjew said...

special teams

Anonymous said...

I don't eve know what to think about that.

Was that a planned play by them? Why didn't Gay know where the ball was? WTF?

I'll admit a bad play on our part, and that was one....

I think the defense can hold them again though. It'd be a great chance to lay a few more hits on Brady. If he gets busted up a few more times he'll start to get pissed and he'll be off his game.

Cotter said...

TJ, what up??

This is a golden opportunity here, what do you guys think?

Anonymous said...

Freaking beautiful.

This NE team is NOT used to having to fight tooth-and-nail for a win. I honestly question whether they can stand up to a bruising battle for four quarters without having everything go their way.

They haven't really faced any true adversity yet...

That FG miss was huge.

troubledjew said...

najeh is earning his paycheck today. tomlins trust in him is paying off

The Chief said...

How awesome to connect with other Steelers fan while I'm so far away from Pittsburgh!

Of all of 'em, I think I despise Bruschi more - but Brady's coming awful close!

Go Steelers!!!

Anonymous said...

What the hell was that motion call? Looked to me like Wilie was shifting?

I guess the refs don't dare let Pittsburgh build up too much inertia or momentum...

Cotter said...

You guys see Mike Vrabel offsides twice there?

PS- Chief, what up? Nice to "see" you.

Cotter said...

See that time of posession? 17 minutes to 9. That's huge!

Anonymous said...

Yeah, Bruschi is a smug turd. I hate him too. And i'll bet that "stroe" was steroid-related. i think most of their defenders are 'roided out...

Welcome to the mix TJ and Chief! nice to have some company here...lol

Yeah, Najeh actually is starting to develop. I used to think he could be great, but it seemed like he let up for a while. Now he's starting to explode again.

Can anybody else see how the refs are nitpicking Pittsburgh to death or am i just being hypersensitive again?

The Chief said...

Not much, Cotter! Nice to be here! I didn't catch that on Vrabel but is it me or did Bruschi tackle just a bit early on that 1st and 10 to Willie Parker?

I guess they're just gonna give it to him - or maybe I'm seeing it wrong.

Cotter said...

Yeah T you're right. We aint gettin too many calls today. Gonna have to play even harder. Test that resolve.

troubledjew said...

keep the pressure on

Cotter said...

I'm surprised we're not using Hines more after the last couple weeks.

Anonymous said...

No, you're seeing it right. The refs have given the Cheatriots every advantage on every call(or non-call). That's one of the many reasons i hate this team.

I'm convinced that the NFL orders the refs to give NE a better chance to win since the NE region is so densely populated and offers a lot of potential income from merch sales. It's all a business the last decade or so.

Same reason the NFL abandoned the investigation of the cheating and frikkin' DESTROYED all the bloody evidence only five days into it. They must have realized Belitheif stole all three SBs and NFL didn't want the controversey of revoking the wins and admitting how corrupt it's become.

Funny to me that Pittsburgh and Cowhere lost five AFC Championsips because of poor officiating. A coincidence? I think not.

We *should* have ten SBs by now..

BTW-

I think the Prats are going to lose today. I truly don't believe they can stand the physicality...

Anonymous said...

About time they get called for tackling our D-linemen...

troubledjew said...

it looks like were not getting to brady but hes hearing footsteps. if thats big ben in the pocket it would be a walk in the park for him.we cant let up on him. who cares about sacks make him start imagining things

Cotter said...

Anthony Smith better show up second half. You guarantee a win and then play like that? Bad form.

Cotter said...

Damn right man! Keep the heat on Brady. Keep giving him different looks. Keep collapsing that pocket on him.

Anonymous said...

All-in-all a very, very good first hal of football. NE likely expected to be crushing us by now, and everyone on their team is looking tired. There's no bounce in ther step, and their defense isn't nearly as chippy as they have been up to now.

With the oldest average age in the league i really think Pittsburgh will start to beat them up bad by the end of the third quarter.

I said it before:

I don't care if we win. Seriously. I'd love to, but all i want is for our guys to beat this team up physically and make them sore, tired, and achy. With the majority of their starters well into their 30's this team won't last deep into the post-season. If they do, and we get to meet up against them again, we'll own them.

Three teams with a fraction of the strength, heart and determination of our Steelers have pushed these turds to the brink.

Here We Go Steelers! Here we Go!

Cotter said...

I hear that man! I def want a win but I'd def also like to see us continue to knock 'em around.

Anonymous said...

No call for the helmet-to-helmet hit by Wilfork?

There's a shocker...

Anonymous said...

A good defesnsive stand here could set up a great sitch. I get the eeling watching Willie that he's verging on breaking that big play.

As long as our D-backs keep cracking Moss and Welker Brady won't have the chance to make a big play. You take away thos big plays and the Cheatriots don't really have any offense.

And i'm feeling a big play by Silverback soon. He's been too quiet today...

Cotter said...

Yep, Willie is wearing 'em down. He's a few carries away from a big one.

Cotter said...

That's on Anthony Smith-get it the f together man.

Anonymous said...

Anthony Smith got burned again. What was he thinking? He needs to learn to play his position and stop trying to be a big-timer.

And i'm not convinced that that was in fact a backwards pass. Luckily for NE they didn't replay it fast enough for me to see.

And here we go with the f*cking bullshit penalties.

Just more adversity to shake off..

This team thinks it's God's gift to football. I'm still saying we're gonna pull it out. Lots of football left..

PS- Phil Simms is a douchebag. He should be beat and tarred and feathered. How does he get prime games?

Anonymous said...

Gawd i hate both these announcers...

And did i miss something? I thought sure the score was 14-13 at the half...how did it get to 17-13?

I might have missed something, but i don't think i did...

Cotter said...

Too many Giant fans in this world, that's how.

Still a lot of game left but we better start hittin on defense and actually moving the ball on offense.

Anonymous said...

How in the f*ck can Brady throw it to the only open guy on every single play without even looking? I've never seen anything like it before. He's done it in every game i've seen.

The only explanation i can come up with is that he already knows the defensive play. He's not even looking around, just at one reciever every play. That's not "great QBing". That's cheating.

It was the same way in the playoff games- he throws it superfast to the one open guy on the feild. He/they're cheating.

They have to be. NFL football just isn't that easy. It's like they're reading the defense's minds...or their play-book.

Hmm.

Fuck it- just hit the motherfuckers as hard as ya can as often as ya can.

Cheatin' fucks.

PS- sorry if i hurt anybody's sensitive feelings, but this is ridiculous. Nobody has ever been able to just throw-throw-throw-throw-throw-throw. Ever.

This fuck ain't God.

Cotter said...

I'd like to hurt TOM BRADY'S feelings among other things...just hit em as often and hard as you can.

Anonymous said...

It sure would be nice to get a couple holding calls against these turds. I have a hard time beleiving they've only held once all day. I've seen them holding on several plays.

But aparrently the Patricheats just do everything perfect every single play. Cause they're the Perfect Team...

It ain't over yet. We'll still pull it out. But it'll be close...

Anonymous said...

It's OK.

We'll get the safety here, get the ball ball, score, get the two-point conversion and be one score down with plenty of time left.

No problem...

Anonymous said...

Does anybody else have the impression that they know our play calls, on both sides of the ball?

Is it just me?

Cotter said...

Game over. Just hurt 'em.

Cotter said...

They don't need to know what the call is to stop a handoff to Hines Ward on 4th down.

Anonymous said...

We never had a chance without the refs actually calling their O-line for holding, or their D-line for jumping offsides, or their LBs and D-backs for hitting our WRs too early.

As usual NE gets handed another victory.

I still hafta admit that that last trick play was a back-breaker. I know i never saw it coming.

Maybe Anthony Smith will learn a hard, hard lesson from this game about staying in his position and keeping his mouth shut...but i still don't blame him.

We really could have used a healthy Troy out there.

But, it ain't over yet. Ben's a competitor, so is Hines, and so is Willie and the rest.

Maybe they can knock Brady plum out. But only temporarily. Like for a few weeks without any permanet damage. I wouldn't wish brain trauma even on a Patricheat.

Cotter said...

Embarassing. The Steelers should be embarassed.

Anonymous said...

I know man.

That was a stupid playcall. I'm just trying to divert my disappointment and frustration onto the enemy.

By rights they should have tried to get the ball to Heath or Matt Spaeth in the end zone. An end-around was downright asking for trouble.

And, honestly, the Patriots have made some damned fine plays tonight. I can admit that.

But i still don't see how they complete so many passes. It just boggles my mind.

Maybe Brady is the best QB ever.

The good news for us is that we will still have a good shot at the playoffs, and even if we'd won tonight the Patriots will likely be in our way to the Big Game. Nothing bad has come of this game.

We made some stupid mistakes in all three phases.

But still, there were several bad cals and non-calls that seriously affected things. But there always are. I just wish they'd go our way instead of against us....

Anonymous said...

Not a lot anybody can do when defenders are allowed to get to the reciever before the ball does. They did it all day. Almost every pass play. I'll give them credit for being good enough to time themselves so precisely though. It wasn't all the ref's faults. Most of those pass plays were so close it couldn't be seen except in replay.

But in replay the Prats WERE there early most of the time. Good for them i guess.

If we forget the flubbed punt, and the two TDs Smith gave up it wasn't a bad game.

Arians probably could have made some better calls in the red zone. If we had scored every time we got in the red zone the game would've been very different.

Still, i think this loss wil work in our favor if we do see these guys in the post-season. I've said all alng that i couldn't care les if they win every regular-season game. In fact, it'd be great if they DID, and we got to beat them at their place in the playoffs. That would more than avenge this loss.

I disagree, Cotter- nothing to be embarrassed about. There were a lot of factors at play in this game, and our mistakes were only a part of those. Without those mistakes we *might* have won, but it's no sure-thing.

Anonymous said...

It looks to me like the Steelers learned a lot in this game.

I, for one, have to admit that the Patriots are a pretty damned good team. Those two last TD passes surprised the shit outta me. I never saw them coming.

On the other hand, i saw nothing in the way our Steelers played to make me think we don't have a real shot at the Title. Everybody in the sports-media world might already consider NE the SB champs, but i bet ya the Steelers don't.

NE has a soft scedule here on out. That'll hurt them in post-season play; they'll lose some of that edge. And don't be surprised if Miami beats them, or the NYJ...

Thanks for the thread, Cotter. It was good to have some folks to share the frustration with...

domski43 said...

steelers moved the ball effectively early, but traded tds for fgs. Had the chance to set the tone early, and allowed the big play to moss on a perfectly executed play-action pass...(wonder who is sitting next to Anthony Smith on the plane tonite?) William Gay screwed up twice on special teams. The backbreaker was the flee flicker hickey ma doo from moss to brady to person beating anthony "i need to learn to shut my mouth" Smith.

steelers look like they need a lot of work to match up with the pats. i'll be the first to admit that their offense is amazing. maybe with polamalu things would be a little different?? steelers will have to play the perfect game and maybe a little luck come playoff time.

Cotter said...

PS - for the record, I retract my statement that the Steelers should be embarrassed. It was rough, but hey, not the end of the world.
