Well, as you probably have heard by now, super veteran punter Chris Gardocki was released by the Steelers yesterday in a move that didn't surprise anyone. 16 years, four teams (though I don't know if we can count the Browns as a whole team, so maybe 3 1/2), one pro bowl, and one solid kicking leg. The guy did his job and did it well, even at the ripe ol' age(s) of 34-37. But I wouldn't retire him just yet. He's probably still got a couple good years left if there's a team out there who will have him and his $1 million+ salary.
The good news is, this paves the way nicely for much heralded(by me) rookie punter/rabid animal Daniel Sepulveda. Despite the fact that some think Mike Barr, a perrenial training camp fixture (for the last few years) who just can't seem to find his way onto the squad, I think the Steelers plan to give Sepulveda the proverbial trial-by-fire, and I think he can handle it. Too bad in the NFL, punters don't often run down the field as part of the containment contingent, because I'd really love to see Justin Miller or anyone like him get laid out by Sepulveda.
Oh well, a man can dream, right?
