Nate Washington - The Maserati Of Wideouts...

"It's Monday night, it's prime time again, but we're a pretty upset football team right now, so we've got some rebounding to do."
- Ben Roethlisberger
Afternoon Steeler faithful! Mucho news for you this fine Monday...and by fine I mean awful - nothing like coming back from a long weekend to rainy weather, city parking issues and worst of all, work...

The goods news, however, is that as of now, we're only hours away from kickoff time. Steelers - Dolphins. Pittsburgh's 2nd Monday Night scuffle of the season - The Joey Porter Bowl. If you've missed any of my coverage leading up to today, be sure to check it all out via the links above (or just scroll down the homepage, your choice).

Otherwise, let me recap for you some of the top Monday Steelers stories:
  • Shocking Realization Of The Day ~ Nate Washington is the fastest wideout on the team...according to Face Me Ike...

  • Coincidence? ~ Heinz Field got new grass just in time for Ricky Williams coming to town...

  • File Under The "Duh"partment ~ Steelers Need Better Line Play...awful pun I know, I apologize...

  • Joey Porter Week Culminates This Evening ~ Until then, there's plenty of coverage here, here, and here...

  • Always Have A Plan B ~ Deshea Townsend filling in at Safety? Can it be so?

  • Coaching Addition? ~ Looks like Chan Gailey is in the market...will the Steelers come knocking?

  • Getting To Know Your "Special" Teams ~ Meet Anthony Madison...

  • I Refuse To Look Ahead To The Patriots ~ Fortunately, other people are doing that for me...

  • The Wisdom Of The Blonde Bomber ~ Last but not least -- quoth Terry Bradshaw on yesterday's Fox halftime show - "Chad Johnson doing what he does. I don't know why he's doing that they've only won 3 games. Bengals 14, Titans 6...nobody cares..."
AND that's all I got for now...Let's give 'em hell tonight! Here we go Stillers!!

Ballhype: hype it up!

A little over an hour to kickoff. I'm feeling pretty solid about a win tonight, but i don't think it'll come easily. The Fins ARE desperate, and Peezy can be an effective motivator. Given his familiarity with the team i see a few complications if not really problems.

Important game tonight. They're all important here on out. I see us at 8-3 after tonight. Beyond that it is that part of the season when our team always buckles down and gets truly strong. With a good run into the post-season we can all but lock-up a bye week.

PS- i think the Colts are going to lose a game or two more. Can't say why. And Jax is in trouble as soon as they face a good, balanced football team with defense. We're in good shape for the two-seed.

No wild rants tonight. Flu's still got me down :-(

Go Stillers!

Ben shoulda known J-Peezy was gonna grab that ball. I've never seen an easier INT. Almost looked like Ben was throwing to him, a la Larry Brown from Neil-O in SBXXX. F*cker.

And Nate Washington didn't even try to lay a block for Hines on that screen.

These guys better pick it up offensively. At least Willie's running well in this straight-ahead mode.

Heinz Field SUX! I *hate* this grass. Why haven't they figured out to install a roll-out cover and some drainage ditch?

Still first quarter. Just saw R. Williams run. Let's hope he doesn't have a big day...

Anybody else getting sick of the NFL's new "3 plays/6 commercials" format?

I timed the commercials last night in the Sunday night game:

48 minutes of commercials total

Sick, ain't it?

Pass interference against the OFFENSE? On a first down catch by Hines in the Red Zone? Called aganst Heath Miller, who wasn't even the receiver? First time i've ever seen a call like that. Ever. But we should expect it by now.

You've gotta be kidding me....

Anybody still think i'm wrong about the bad calls by officials? Every single week we get some unbelievable, totally senseless, ridiculous call against at critical points in the game. Every week.

Of course, the Dolphins are playing perfect, mistake free football.

This is sickening. And i HATE Jaworski.

4th and 15 to go in the top of the third qtr. Time for another devastating penalty against us...

Oh, wow...we actually had a big play *without* a nonsensical, devastating penalty called.

Nice sack by Larry and James...

I think my head will explode if we lose this game. It definitely will if too many of those insane penalties are involved.

BTW- The announcers, as usual, are blatantly rooting for the Fins.

Did i mention how much i hate Jaworski?

We'll win this one, but it'll come down to the wire.

Go Stillers! Dammit.

Good effort by Fast Willie and the O-line on this last drive of the 3d quarter. However, i don't understand at all why they didn't go to a 2 TE set on the 3d and 1 play. A short pass on a TE out-n-up woulda got the first down and maybe more.

At least the defense is playing strong. I'm thinking this game will be decided by 3 points or less.

Miami defense is playing well, and getting good pressure on the o-line. Max Starks acts like he doesn't know how (or just doesn't want to) keep his hips low and feet chopping. A shame we don't have a quality tackle besides Colon, who looks like he's doing pretty well. Haven't seen much of what Simmons is doing, but he must be doing fair because Willie's had a few solid runs.

The field is miserable. Nonetheless there is no reason we have totally abandon the passing game. Frustrating night here in Steelerville...

Can ANYBODY argue with the absolute ridiculosity of that call on the tipped/short feild goal? How in G-d's green earth did the officials come up with that "illegal formation(??)" call just in time to negate our return, which looked like it was going a long, long way?

Only in a Steeler game do these kinds of unimagineable calls occur. In no other game do i EVAR see this kind of crap.

Jeez. At least we survived that string of biased officiating....

And yet ANOTHER devastatingly-timed holding call late in the fourth against Heath Miller. I, personally, didn't think it looked much like holding. In fact, i've seen Dolphin O-linesmen do much, much more definitive holding than that all night.

But it should be expected after all these years....

Hell, Doms, at least you have the excuse of bein' loaded. I'm stone-cold sober and still posting insanity...lol

Thank the Big Steeler in the Sky for Jeff "Skippy" Reed!

Good showing for the Dolphins defense tonight. They have nothing to be ashamed of. Great game on their part. Peezy almost single-handedly won the game for 'em. Well- him and the offials of course. Their offense was a little weak, but so was ours.

A tough, tough night all the way around. Still, i say the refs did their best to give it away for us. I honestly didn't see anything on either call against Heath. What a loada crap. But we won. That's the important thing.

My last word(for tonight :-):

My game ball for this win goes to Daniel "da Foot" Sepulveda. Without his excellent work in the punting ame we would likely have either lost or had to come from behind. Great placement of the ball, excellent touch on the short punts, and almost always got a Pittsburgh roll the few times it actually moved after hitting the ground.

Sepulveda is maybe our most under-rated draft pick in last year's draft. I like him a lot. Not as much as Jaworski likes anybody who gives the Stillers a hard time, but a lot.
